1. PILATES

This low-impact exercise is all about strength and flexibility. Most of the time, unless you are using a stability ball, pilates are done with just your body weight, focusing on the movement and aiming to increase your body’s balance and mobility. A yoga mat is a perfect match for this! 

2. PUSHUPS

Pushups are often incorporated into many types of workout routines, and by using a yoga mat— it’s all the more easier. Place your hands on the mat and position yourself into the plank position, then lower yourself to the ground by bending at the elbows until your chest touches the floor. Press back up to start form and repeat as desired. No need to use the dirty floor! 

3. SIT-UPS

Another exercise that requires being on the ground would be sit-ups— but laying on the floor can be gross! And that’s why yoga mats come in handy. Simply lay down on your back with your hands behind your head and knees bent at 90 degrees. Pull in your stomach muscles and use them to bring yourself up as far as possible before letting yourself fall back down onto the mat. 

4. PLANKS

As one of the best exercises to improve your core strength and balance, planks require something comfortable and sturdy to use while practicing it. That’s where your yoga mat comes in handy. Get into a plank position on your hands and toes, then hold it as long as possible without any sagging in your body or sinking in your hips.

5. STRETCHING

No matter what your exercise routine looks like, stretching is an integral part of every workout! Before you get started, lay the mat on the ground, lie down on it face up, bend one leg at a time as you reach towards your toes. Extend your arms over your head with palms facing upwards. Hold this position for ten deep breaths or more. You’ll be good to conquer the rest of your routine with confidence!
